Hi, whatever has brought you here - welcome. I hope this website gives you a flavour of what to expect if we work together.
I am a qualified adult therapeutic counsellor with MBACP membership and a qualified mindfulness practitioner. I studied at Mindfulness UK, in Taunton, Somerset, and later Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute in North London.
I offer Gestalt based psychotherapy, and work in a creative way, including story, meditation, and a diversity of resources, in support of my clients. I feel talking therapy is an open door to fully discovering who we can be, and healing any parts of ourselves that we are struggling with, or that are no longer serving us well.
I use story, and guided imagery in my work, for embodied relaxation: calming the nervous system, and allowing you to find self-regulation with more ease.
Gestalt therapy believes that we are always working to feel whole, and if given the time, and the support, we can find our own unique way of coming home to ourselves. We are a diversity of human life, and often at some point in our lives, we lose the confidence that we are enough, and have enough, and can heal enough, to live fully.
Mindfulness weaves through my work, bringing some space, and self-compassion, in our sessions. Practicing living in a more mindful way helped me reboot the joy in my own life. It helps create more resilience, and I believe it is an essential and joyful way of counteracting the stresses of our daily life.
So I also offer a stand alone 4 week course in mindfulness practice, which I created for those wanting a taste and beginning foundation to living with more awareness, less stress, and more wonder in day-to-day life.
Spirituality is inherent in my life, and my faith is inclusive. I believe all spiritual paths lead to wisdom, and we should be free to find our own way.
I work with all major issues that might bring someone to counselling, although I have a particular interest on working with personality disorders, neurodiversity, family dynamics, grief, and living with chronic pain.
I am trauma informed in my work, and have focused in particular with emotional abuse, from whatever source: family, partner, or work, and the trauma this can cause.
COUPLES WORK
As a Gestalt practitioner, I enjoy working with couples. I weave into our sessions the work of Terry Real, at the Relational Life Institute, with whom I am currently furthering my training.
RLT has a robust and compassionate way of working with couples that is well suited to all length relationships, be it four months or forty years! It believes, like Gestalt, in the therapist taking an active part with the clients, in order to take on sometimes fixed and deeply entrenched patterns of destructive behaviours.
